How Much Does Tile Installation Cost in Seattle?
Every project is unique, but these are realistic, recent ranges for most homes in the Seattle area. These numbers include labor and typical prep work. The specific tile is purchased separately.
These ranges are based on our recent projects throughout Seattle. Below you’ll find more details on material costs, installation complexity, and the factors that influence final pricing.
Tile pricing from Datile, Bedrosians, and Floor & Decor
Most homeowners who choose professional tile installation purchase tile from Datile, Bedrosians, or Floor & Decor. Tile prices vary widely depending on material and design. These ranges will give you a realistic idea of what to expect when budgeting.
Tile installation pricing by project type
Every tile project involves different materials, prep work, and design details. These ranges reflect what we typically see for Seattle homes.
Bathroom floor tile
Typical pricing ranges from $1,800 to $2,800. This includes basic prep, tile installation, and grout. Costs increase with smaller tiles, intricate patterns, or self-leveling requirements.
Kitchen floor tile
Most kitchen floor projects fall between $2,400 and $3,600. Larger areas, transitions to other flooring, or radiant heat can increase the final cost
Tub surround tile
A standard tub surround normally costs between $4,500 and $6,000. This includes waterproofing, tile installation, and grout. Niches, trim pieces, and handmade tile may increase the price.
Full tile shower
A full custom tile shower typically ranges from $8,500 to $15,000 or more. This includes the custom shower pan, waterproofing, tile floors and walls, and grout. Larger tiles, complex patterns, and specialty features contribute to higher pricing
Kitchen backsplash
Backsplash installations usually range from $1,000 to $2,500 depending on tile type, layout complexity, and overall size.
Visual Project Profiles
Want to keep costs down?
- Go with a basic layout (e.g. stacked or subway).
- Skip custom features like niches or benches or knee walls.
- Ensure surface is level, flat, and demo is complete.
Prep work and extras most homeowners forget about
Proper prep work is essential for a long-lasting tile installation. These items often have the biggest impact on overall cost and project timeline.
Demolition
Demo of existing tile or other work typically ranges from between $800 and $1,600. The cost of demo, depends on size, type of material being demo’d, and access to/from the project in the home.
Self-leveling underlayment
Self-leveling typically ranges from $800 to $1,600 and is used to correct uneven or wavy floors.
Waterproofing
Waterproofing a tub surround usually takes about 1/2 to 1 day, while a full shower requires 2 to 2 1/2 days to complete.
Radiant floor heating
Heated floor systems usually cost between $800 and $1,400 for materials and $600 to $ 1,200 for installation. This is a popular comfort upgrade, especially in bathrooms. This excludes the cost of a Licensed Electrician doing the required hook-up.
Plumbing and Electrical
As a homeowner, you’ll need to use your Licensed Plumber and Licensed Electrician. If we are doing any work around Plumbing, we will need their license information to support our warranty. A Licensed Electrician usually cost between $800 to $1,600.
Painting
From touch-up to full repaint of the project area, fresh paint is a great way to further impact the “wow” to newly installed tile. A professional painter will usually cost between $1,000 to $5,000+
Fixtures
This comes into play mostly around our shower and bath tile installation projects. Talk to your Licensed Plumber, but they will likely want new fixtures to replace the old ones – and of course, with new tile – wouldn’t new fixtures be another “wow” to newly installed tile. Quality fixtures will usually cost between $500 to $3,000+.
How long tile projects take
Most tile projects follow predictable timelines. Here’s what you can expect for common installations.
Why tile prices vary between installers
If you’ve collected multiple quotes, you may notice a wide range of prices. This is normal in tile installation and usually comes down to several key factors.
We explain these details before the project begins so you understand exactly what influences your final price.
Is It Really Worth It?
Cheap tile work often means:
- Skipped prep and waterproofing
- Poor cuts and crooked layouts
- Grout cracking within months
- Water damage behind walls
We’ve torn out too many of these rushed installs to count. That’s why we do it right the first time — with professional prep, premium methods, and expert finishes.
If you’re going to tile it once, tile it to last.
